Case Studies

Worked with an European commercial bank who was attempting to re-establish its property lending business in the U.S. The bank has been in the property lending business, but exited it after experiencing some troubling loans in its portfolio. The bank wanted to resurrect the property lending business.

After preparing a risk tolerance analysis through interviews with senior management, we outlined a strategic plan addressing targeted geographies and property types, and the structure of the bank’s internal staffing needs and qualifications. The bank subsequently grew its property loan portfolio to USD4 billion from zero in about three years.

Approached by a U.S.-based architectural firm who had a Saudi client who wanted to know the viable property development options for a vacant, owned property in Jeddah.

In a working partnership with the architectural firm, we provided business analysis of proposed projects and criticised the design and details of the proposed project for a USD180 million multi-family structure with a retail entertainment component. We competed against other firms who were seeking business with the Saudi family.

Worked with the general counsel of a major developer regarding a lawsuit filed against the developer for unlawful dismissal of a senior employee. The emplyee was dismissed becasue of extensive development project progress compared to schedule.

We opined that the dismissal was approriate. We made this recommendation by defining the typical tasks of what a developer typically performs when building a major project, versus what the dismissed emplyee actually did. There was a large discrepancy between what was done compared to what should have been done.
